Unknown things about Rolly?

from those viral videos on youtube, the ones directly originating from ‘rolly00001′, they suggest amateur video recording. just random clips of nothing, and some clips seemingly intentionally taken. some from the point of view of a camera on the table in front of the person, possibly the rolly on the table?
if i remember correctly from what i read the sony idog ,or whatever it was called, took photos through its eyes? and uploaded via wifi, or whenever he was connected to a computer, to a webserver.
the rolly being advertised as communication etc etc with those keyword might suggest that there is more than just audio features in it.
possibly a tiny camera similar to 3g mobile phones with a wifi broadcasting thing to send them onto a free hosting website such as youtube or flickr when it gets an open network?
either that or dont let teens in charge of your viral campaigns.
actually at the very start of the promo video with the skitzo disco track by justice you can see that there is some indentation at the centre on top of the rolly,
and at the end when the guy is asleep and its spinning about in front of him you can see the centre part spin and you can clearly see a glowing blue circle with a dark centre spin around the main part of the body.
this to me could suggest a tiny camera lens surrounded by an led light.?
similar to the ring light on the xbox 360 camera
Excellent points!
What do you figure that the size of the device will be?
If Rolly indeed has built-in louspeakers and a camera, then what about wi-fi/bluetooth? wouldn’t it be great if the Rolly could stream video content directly to the Playstation 3 or PSP consoles? The video could be played on the background of the party and recorded for later embarrasment. If this was the case, couldn’t the music also be streamed from PS3 harddrive directly ro the Rolly loudspeakers?
Finally, couldn’t there be a game binding this whole thing together?
Or could I just be dreaming?
im not sure about the ps3, as i dont have much interest in it, however with the psp sony seem to be pushing location free player, this rolly could simply be another ‘fun’ way to further market the location free player.
from comments i’ve read on engadget, a poster mentioned that he had seen a similar robot called ‘muvio’ made by a japanese robotics company. i visited the website and they only have three robots under their products, none similar to the rolly, so it could be that sony has licenced that muvio under the name rolly as a sony product as the poster had suggested.
i remember reading last year that sony while cutting corners, axed their robotics research division, so the above licensing scenario could be possible.
sony seem to be abandoning the helpful technology & robotics in favor of lifestyle products.
my honest opinion & speculation is that the rolly will be simply an entertainment device similar to their previous consumer robots only with more advanced networking and media capabilities.
bluetooth, i dont think so, even though the ps3 has bluetooth support for controllers etc, what use would it be of in a small moving media egg? especially the relativly short range compared to wifi.
wifi, probably yes, it would integrate the rolly with the location free player, psp and ps3, perhaps using the psp as a remote??? it might even be possible to view live streaming video from the rolly to the psp through a camera (if it exists on the rolly)
which might have some form of game behind it.
3d pacman?? like what i remember was done a few years ago in japan?? but that may be speculating too much.
thb, i think as best is will have
wifi
camera
speakers
lights up
& moves
with possible integration with the psp and ps3
possibly around $100/$150 any more and you’d be better off getting a psp.
for true entertainment.
looking at that video again those speakers seem to be on either side of the rolly, inside those moving flaps, that would have really crap sound, with those flaps moving open and closed in time to the music it would be a really crap aural experience. try it with your computer speakers, play a track and cover them with your hands in time to the beat.
sounds crap doesnt it! its loud, its muffled, its loud, its muffled, its loud its muffled etc etc
i think location free and a proper sound setup independent of the rolly would be ideal.
its looking more and more like a gimmick to boost sales of something else
and its obvious from the end of the ‘promo’ video that its about the size of a 330ml can of coke
ZMP MIURO Robot
“The MIURO comes in four colors and sells for 108,800 yen (~$928). ”
